World AIDS Day, Sunday 1st of December
Written by Sarah Castle on 29th November 2019
Hey everyone,
This Sunday, the 1st of December is coming up and to a lot of us that means Christmas is getting close! But this day also has another significance, it is World AIDS Day.
The purpose of this day is for everyone to come together and raise awareness for HIV and help support those affected by it.
This day is important as in the UK alone, there are over 101,600 people living with this and globally there is an estimate over 36.7 million people. Since being identified in 1984, over 35 million people have died from AIDS or HIV.
Thankfully there have been scientific advances for treatments and laws to protect those living with the condition. Scientists continue to research and make developments. However there still remains a stigma and discrimination to those living with it, which makes this day so important to raise awareness and support.
There are many ways to get involved, such as wearing a red ribbon on the day. Please see below for more information and how you could get involved.
