THE RACE

You missed a giggle

You missed making amazing new friends

You missed the high feeling of achievement

You missed the drop-dead gorgeous after-event photos

Well, I can say it all started the night before the event, when I went to sleep thinking

“OK, hell fire” What did I do that for -encouraging us as a team to enrol for

“Race for life”

I ask you, would you have slept well?

But committed now the excuses of

-Upset tummy

-Not feeling so good

-Ankle sprain

No, that would not work morally for me, So I pulled up my big girl pants, and now there are the photos as ‘evidence’

I like ‘evidence’ otherwise, as I say, it did not happen!!!

And now the details :

The first 1KM marker was a challenge, but soaking wet, covered in mud, looking such a scary sight, reaching the marker for 4KM was a delight, the home straight.

The last hurdle at the finish line was completed with a bunch of youngsters breaking into song at the top of their voices, dancing and delighted to have achieved, we climbed the slide to the tunes to then slide down to the muddiest collection of water,

“WHILST being sprayed with a cold waterpower hose all the way down”

Well, the race organisers got that the wrong way round, they cleaned you up before you landed in the muddy water, I believe, it is so you remember what you achieved on the way home, that you had just conquered the MUDDY RUN in aid of cancer research.

You also get to be freezing cold, even if you put the heaters on full blast, and that's the point when the mud dries all over your body and the car !!

Arriving home to the best hot shower ever experienced.

So come and join us all in another mad experience next year, we will be waiting for you on the start line.

Details in the first 2026 newsletter, don’t forget to watch this space.

On Saturday 5th July, beneath a cloudless sky, our team arrived dressed head-to-toe in vibrant pink—everyone, that is, except me in my lone green shirt (turns out I missed the memo!). After snapping some pre-race photos, we headed to the start line, where the “warm-up” felt more like a full-blown outdoor aerobics class—but it certainly got our hearts pumping.

When the horn sounded, I sprinted off with Bex, Amanda and Ellie on my heels. Within the first hundred metres we lost Bex and Amanda in the crowd, and Ellie gamely decided she’d stick with me for the entire course (a choice she’d soon discover was a mistake). We flew through the first obstacle, only to meet a brutal hill soon after; a quick walk break suddenly felt like a brilliant idea.

From there it was a blur of jumps, crawls, climbs and sliding. Half-way round—mud-soaked, low on energy and barely able to see we kept pushing, determined to beat the hour which we did.

With a little still left in the tank, I ran back along the course, found the rest of our crew, and paced each group to their own finish. At last, medals in hand and smiles all round, we celebrated an unforgettable day of laughter, teamwork and pink-splattered memories.

I wouldn’t change a thing except maybe checking the dress code next time!

Well what can I say such an experence, myself and Ofielia started running after 2 mins we looked at each other and decied we would walk the rest! After a few obsitcals and getting very wet and muddy we came to the space hoppers, I thought i'll have a go! Bad choice my knee gave out halfway round that obstical such fun. We then came to another crawling obstical Ofielia had a go I didn't (knee) We then walked the main stretch bumping into Bredan checking on us all! Then before we knew it we were going down the slide.

The Clean Up

That's just for me to know let's just say the bathroom was a right mess.

Ofelia

Race for life was a unique experience for me with lots of joy and fun. Thank you to everyone who made it possible. All for a good cause.
